Tragic Stabbing Incident at Phish Concert: One Life Lost, Two Injured (2025)

One person was killed and two more were injured in an “isolated incident” stabbing outside a Phish concert held Friday night at Hampton Coliseum in Virginia.

In a statement after the rock band’s showing, the group wrote, “During last night’s show, a tragic incident took place in the parking lot outside Hampton Coliseum. There was an altercation behind one of the tents in the unofficial vending area in which someone lost their life and two other people were injured. We don’t have more information than what has been reported by the police, who called it an isolated incident, but what we do know is upsetting enough. We are deeply saddened by this and our hearts go out to all of those affected.”

Local outletWTKR reported that an argument near an unofficial merchandise booth around 9:30 p.m. between several people escalated into a large, violent altercation that left three hurt. One was taken to the hospital where they succumbed to fatal injuries; the second individual was also hospitalized and a third walked to the hospital after suffering a non-life-threatening laceration.

Police have since identified all parties involved, with authorities adding that a person of interest who fled the scene was found and apprehended nearby, though officials did not confirm whether the individual was a suspect connected with the stabbing.

Because Phish is slated to perform again tonight, and did so Saturday evening, there will continue to be an increased police presence near the Hampton Coliseum as the band wraps up its three-night event. The investigation is currently ongoing, with the Hampton Police Division saying officers are continuing to interview witnesses to coordinate next steps.

Phish has a full slate of shows ahead, with stops in such cities as Denver, Cincinnati and Detroit, as well as a New Year’s run at Madison Square Garden in late December. In early 2026, the band will have an additional four-night run at Moon Palace Cancun in Mexico.
